Registration for Devereux Community Based Care?s complimentary breakfast series is now open and available at www.devereuxcbc.org. The first breakfast is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 27 at Nutmeg?s in Okeechobee. Nutmeg's is sponsoring the event. Devereux Community Based Care CEO Carol Deloach will deliver a State of the Circuit address to highlight recent successes and challenges in the local child-welfare system as well as plans for the coming months. Those plans include a yearlong community relations campaign to raise awareness and support for Sanctuary4Kids, a planned six-bed assessment center, or ?safe place? for children awaiting placement into foster care. The assessment center is a community initiative driven by Guardians for New Futures, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to meet the unfunded needs of children in foster care.
